About
Monke Fight takes place in the Aktakata jungle with multiple sub-biomes, home to many different kinds of monkeys. From time to time, the many monkeys of the jungle would come together to engage in the Monke Fight. There was no war, no malice, no territorial conquest. The Monke Fight is just a friendly competition. The objective is fun.
The game is a platform fighter, so most of the game mechanics were standard for the genre. You can run, jump, dodge, and attack in all 4 directions plus a neutral attack, and aerial attacks.
Where Monke Fight builds its own identity is its anti-helplessness mechanics. Each character has directional boost attacks for recovering and stage positioning. This is to make sure that if you’re getting juggled and can’t make it back to the stage, you can put a little space between you and your opponent or even slip past them. Another important feature is the combo system. As you pull off consecutive attacks they get stronger and deal more knockback. This mechanic is meant to keep combos short but still satisfying. Finally, if all else fails and your back is against the wall, each Monkey has the ability to poop. Pooping is an instant action that can be executed at any time regardless of the state the player is in. It is a powerful combo breaking tool that disrupts and slows anyone hit by it for a few seconds.
Knowing that developing anything for this would be a challenge, I set up 2 different scopes for myself.
- A demo with 3 characters and 2 levels,
- A full game with 8 characters and 6 levels.
